If you do the electrical calculations you find a 3 phase VFD would put out 59% of its nameplate when fed single phase power.
I know of no company producing a single phase input sensorless vector VFD in the 10 hp range.Īccording to a bulletin I have, from Hitachi, you need to oversize the VFD by Two times when using a 3 phase VFD on single phase input. Your next best chance would be a Sensorless vector VFD with no feedback from the motor. These can be complicated to set up and VERY expensive. If you plan to proceed without the backgear, your best chance of success would be a flux vector VFD with feedback from the motor itself. You are going to lose torque due to the loss of the backgear.
